Aftercare

A tattoo is more than just a piece of art and a way to assert your personal style. It’s a medical procedure too, because the artist uses a needle to insert the ink underneath your skin.

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure the longevity and healing of your new tattoo. Here are some tips to follow for optimal tattoo aftercare:

  • Keep the bandage on for at least 2-3 hours, but no longer than 12 hours after getting the tattoo. This will allow the skin to start healing and prevent bacteria from entering the wound.
  • Once you remove the bandage, gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild soap, using your fingertips or a soft cloth. Avoid scrubbing the area with a washcloth or loofah, as this can damage the healing skin.
  • After washing, pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel or air dry it for 10-15 minutes.
  • Apply a thin layer of tattoo aftercare cream or ointment to the tattooed area, making sure to cover the entire design. This will keep the skin moisturized and prevent scabbing.
  • Avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, or saunas for at least 2-3 weeks. This can cause the tattoo to fade or become infected.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won't rub against the tattooed area. Avoid tight clothing or anything that may cause friction.
  • Avoid scratching, picking, or rubbing the tattoo, as this can damage the healing skin and cause infection.
  • Follow your tattoo artist's specific aftercare instructions, as they may have additional tips or recommendations based on your individual needs.
  • By following these aftercare tips, you can ensure that your new tattoo heals properly and looks great for years to come.
